Research is fundamental to our developments, starting with problems in mathematics education, developing strategies and resources to overcome these problems, trialling, evaluating, and revising where necessary and finally disseminating to teachers, tutors, learners and parents and carers.
Current projects
Key Stage 3 Project
This pilot comprehensive online course for Key Stage 3 Mathematics has been developed by the Centre for Innovation in Mathematics Teaching (CIMT) at Plymouth University, to enhance the mathematical progress and mastery of all learners in Years 7 to 9. It provides a strong mathematical foundation for GCSE Mathematics, based on teaching and learning strategies from mathematically high performing schools and countries and sustainable through using lesson study for CPD.
GCSE Maths Equivalency Course
The maths GCSE equivalency programme is a short course that will enable participants to attain a qualification equivalent to a Level 2 pass for GCSE Mathematics for the purpose of fulfilling entry requirements to University of Plymouth degree courses.

Kassel Project
The main aim of this project is to carry out research into the teaching and learning of Mathematics in different countries, and ultimately to make recommendations about good practice in helping pupils acheive their mathematical potential.
International Project on Mathematical Attainment
The aim of this project was to monitor the mathematical progress of children from the first year of compulsory schooling, throughout primary school and to study the various factors which affect their progress.

A report highlighting the main findings and perspectives of individuals involved in a project implementing a collaborative model for teacher training, adapted from that used in University Practice Schools in Hungary and Finland.

A report on an international research project comparing the training of mathematics teachers in different countries.
